As many of you know, we are still trying to figure out how to help Piper sleep well. She's falls alseep in our arms fairly easily, but wakes up about an hour after we put her down and has to be bounced or nursed back to sleep. The last time we were at her doctor, we asked her opinion. She told us that we need to let her cry herself to sleep. No matter how long it takes, we should not pick her up. If she cries so hard that she throws up, we should wipe it up, but not pick her up. Here's the question for the poll:Should we follow the doctor's advice or should we find a new doctor?
Comment "X" if you believe we should follow the advice of the crazy doctor.
Comment "Y" if you believe we should find a loving hippie doctor.
We have done LOTS of research about this issue and feel comfortable pursuing the "attachment theory" model, but we are just curious what others thought.
I'm reading a book called the No-Cry Sleep Solution. I hope it works!

TWO ENTHUSIASTIC "Y"s! I believe we are doing the right thing, and I spoke with Piper about it and she agrees.
Sean
X
as a baby, i was allowed to cry until i was sleeping on a river of my own tears.
look at me now.
I don't know what the method is called, but several of our friends have done something like letting their babies cry for longer and longer periods without being picked up. It seems to be all the rage right now amd they all swear by it. They said it was REALLY hard on them (the parents) at first, but the babies eventually got used to it and none the worse for the wear. But if you're getting crazy vibes from your doctor, that seems like reason to switch.
Sean is throwing the results off...that is not a fair poll!;)
I agree, find a doctor you like and agree with so Y, but maybe see if you can let her cry just a bit longer and see,so X? That is what my Mother has told me anyways...not the throw up thing though...that's horrible! I just canceled myself out.
Grandma Pirwitz is having technical difficulties and is unable to leave comments, but she sent this e-mail with her thoughtts...
"GET RID OF THAT CRAZY
DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Y!!!!!even though it looks like you've already made a decision...
I'm not a baby expert, but I don't think anyone should have to cry until they vomit.
Well, when we were at this stage, lo these many, many months ago (6), my mom & dad let me cry, but I didn't cry that much. I certainly didn't throw up. Now the tears only flow when I bonk my head (still perfecting my sitting skills) or when I think it's a great time for a book and I learn that it's not. I would vote for a doctor who recognizes that all families have different needs.
